I’ve been using Anki for my anatomy and pharmacology prep, and while the spaced repetition algorithm is amazing, I’m honestly just burned out on the ugly UI and the amount of manual tweaking it takes to keep it running smoothly. Quizlet is too basic, and I need something that feels a bit more modern and easier to manage on the fly.

Does anyone have a solid list of alternative tools that offer a smoother workflow without sacrificing the power of active recall?

I totally get the Anki burnout—the learning curve and formatting issues can feel like a part-time job in themselves. If you want to check out some of the top modern alternatives, there is a really good breakdown of the best flashcard apps 2026 in this review at https://memoryos.com/article/7-best-flashcard-apps-for-students-in-2026-beyond-anki-quizlet. It reviews several highly rated options like Zorbi, which lets you generate cards directly from web articles, and RemNote for integrated note-taking. It’s a great read if you want to find a tool that fits your study style without the clunky interface.
