I am trying to understand the math behind float values and why a 0.07 is considered Minimal Wear while a 0.06 is Factory New. Is there a visible difference between a high-float Factory New and a low-float Minimal Wear skin? Sometimes the Minimal Wear versions look cleaner depending on where the scratches are located on the 3D model.

It all depends on the "paint seed" which determines the coordinates of the wear marks. You can have a Factory New skin with a scratch right on the handle, or a Minimal Wear one where the scratches are all on the back side where you cannot see them. This is why "Max Pink" or "Full Fade" items are so expensive; it is all about the luck of the seed.

It explains the difference between "Brightness" skins and "Patina" skins, which react differently as the float value increases. If you want to view site documentation on how wear levels are calculated and applied to different finishes, this wiki is a great place to start. Some skins just get darker instead of scratching, which is a vital detail to know before buying. Educating yourself on these mechanics will save you from overpaying for a finish that does not age well.
